UWC Holdings Sdn Bhd, a precision components and electro-mechanical parts maker, is investing RM100 million to set up a new plant for medical equipment in Penang.
Their manufacturing plant is on a 4.65ha site in Batu Kawan, South Seberang Prai.
The new facility will make new medical equipment, namely dental chairs and digital X-ray detectors.
The company recruited some 200 workers including 30 to 40 engineers for the new plant. To ensure a supply of engineers for the next five years, the company has introduced a talent development programme with an allocation of RM300,000 in financial assistance to produce engineering graduates.
Besides supplying to the domestic market, the dental chairs will also be exported to a customer in Finland under its brand name.
UWC’s other medical devices and medical equipment include lifters used for lifting and moving patients, diffusion pumps used to create a vacuum environment in medical research laboratories and humidifiers used to condition gases to treat patients with respiratory illnesses, pulmonary infections and lung tissue damage.
