Scam Alert

We have been alerted that members of the public have received fraudulent communication allegedly made on behalf of the Malaysian Investment Development Authority (MIDA). These scams are aimed to mislead the public. MIDA views these matters seriously and these scams have been reported to the relevant authorities. Please contact the Corporate Communications Division, MIDA at +603-2267 3633 when in doubt and need clarification.

A. Fraudulent of Telegram Account

Recently, MIDA has also been alarmed that there are fraudulent social media accounts circulating using MIDA’s name for any scam activities. Members of the public are reminded not to disclose any personal banking information or perform any transactions via Telegram or other social media platforms. MIDA does not own any Telegram account and will NEVER request any bank transaction through any social media platform.

 

MIDA shall not be responsible or liable for any loss or damage in connection with the scam website and Telegram account and its contents. MIDA has taken action by reporting to the relevant authorities.

B. Fraudulent MIDA website

MIDA would like to alert the general public that there is a scam website which appears to be a direct copy of MIDA’s website. The scam website uses the same design, layout and content from MIDA official website (www.mida.gov.my) but replaces MIDA’s name with ‘Malaysian Foreign Procurement Agency’ (MFPA).

MIDA is not in any way associated and do not have any dealings with the Malaysian Foreign Procurement Agency.

MIDA shall not be responsible or liable for any loss or damage in connection with the scam website and its contents. MIDA has taken action by reporting to the relevant authorities.

C. Non-Involvement in the Publication ‘The Showcase of Malaysian Industries Directory’ & ‘Malaysian Industries Authoritative Directory’

MIDA wishes to inform the public that it is not in any way associated with or involved in the publication entitled ‘The Showcase of Malaysian Industries Directory’ and ‘Malaysian Industries Authoritive Directory’.

Please contact the Corporate Communications Division, MIDA at +603-2267 3633 when in doubt and need clarification.

D. Scams purporting to come from individuals pretending to be MIDA Officers

MIDA has become aware of scams purporting to come from individuals and/or entities who claim and fraudulently misrepresents to be working for and/or associated with MIDA.

Anyone who receives any letters, emails, calls or text messages purporting to be from these individuals and suspects it to be fraudulent or a scam should immediately notify MIDA.

MIDA wishes to advise the public to take the necessary precautions when facing such situation.

E. Scams purporting from an individual pretending to be MIDA Personnel

MIDA has become aware of a new scam purporting from an individual named Michelle Anderson who claim and fraudulently misrepresenting herself to be working for MIDA.

We would like to highlight to the public that Michelle Andersonis NOT an employee of MIDA and does not represent MIDA in any way. Thus, anyone who receives letters, emails, calls or text messages from this individual should immediately notify MIDA.
