Energy Efficiency and
Energy Conservation
As part of the Government’s drive to ensure sustainable economic development, the National Energy Efficiency Action Plan 2016-2025 was initiated to encourage the adoption of energy efficiency in the public and private sectors through reducing electricity demand growth by 8% over the 10-year period with a total reduction of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions of 38 million tonnes of carbon dioxide equivalent.
The Government continued to prioritise green adoption by extending the Green Investment Tax Allowance for the purchase of green technology assets and Green Income Tax Exemption on the use of green technology services until 2023. The ITE was also extended for companies which undertake solar leasing activities to increase participation in the Net Energy Metering Scheme (NEM) which was introduced by the Sustainable Energy Development Authority (SEDA).
