As businesses navigate shifting supply chains and seek greater access to regional markets, stronger investment linkages between Malaysia and Hong Kong are opening new pathways for cross-border growth. Building on more than four decades of cooperation, MIDA and Invest Hong Kong (InvestHK) renewed their Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) at the Hong Kong–Malaysia Business Seminar and Networking Lunch in Kuala Lumpur.
The renewed MoU provides a platform to promote high value-added investments, facilitate market expansion in both directions, strengthen business matching and support greater supply chain integration between Malaysian and Hong Kong companies.
The partnership will focus on strategic sectors where both economies offer complementary strengths, including semiconductors and electronics, advanced manufacturing, the digital economy, new energy and pharmaceuticals. It will also enable businesses to leverage Hong Kong’s connectivity, capital and professional services alongside Malaysia’s talent, industrial ecosystem and access to ASEAN markets.
Hong Kong remains an important investment partner for Malaysia. From 1980 to March 2026, close to 1,000 manufacturing projects with Hong Kong participation were approved, representing more than RM60 billion in investments and expected to create almost 197,000 jobs. In 2025, Hong Kong ranked as Malaysia’s third-largest source of approved manufacturing investment, with RM12.4 billion recorded.
The renewed partnership will create more opportunities for Malaysian and Hong Kong businesses to collaborate, invest and expand across ASEAN, the Greater Bay Area and Mainland China, while broadening the reach of both economies’ investment ecosystems.
