Sweet taste of success: Hershey opens new R&D centre in Johor to drive global growth

14 May 2022

The Hershey Company (Hershey) has officially launched a new research and development (R&D) centre in Johor, Malaysia, making it one of Hershey’s largest R&D facilities outside of the United States.

Hershey said the investment is a core part of the company’s strategy to drive international growth through innovation. “The new facility will enable Hershey to quickly develop, test, and launch new products customised to the tastes of consumers across the region,” the company said in a statement today.

Herjit Bhalla, the company’s managing director and vice-president for Asia, Europe, the Middle East, Africa (AEMEA) and India, said “the Malaysian facility will act as a central hub for the company’s operations across the AEMEA region, including India and China”.

The 10,400 square-foot facility will house R&D laboratories, a packaging development facility, and a sensory area, which will enable the company to partner with various innovation teams to taste-test and shortlist iconic products.
