Scomi Group expands rail services portfolio via JV

16 Jul 2021

Scomi Group Bhd (SGB) is expanding its portfolio of services for the rail industry via a joint-venture agreement (JV) signed with railway track specialist and rail infrastructure and maintenance contractor, RC Asia Engineering Sdn Bhd (RCA).

In a statement today, SGB said RCA has over 25 years of experience in providing services for conventional rail as well as urban transit projects in Malaysia in the areas of trackwork, cabling and signalling, as well as civil and structural engineering.

SGB believes that the JV with RCA will expand its product portfolio, hence, the group will be well- positioned to offer extensive products and services to the industry.

“Both parties will be able to draw on the joint skills, expertise, experience and capabilities to bid for tenders for the construction of railway stations, trackwork, signalling, wayside equipment installation and commissioning as well as providing civil and structural engineering services.

“This JV continues SGB’s strategy of seeking strategic alliances in complementary businesses which will offer the company growth potential towards sustainable profitability,” it said.

In spite of the challenging circumstances due to the global pandemic, SGB said it remains focused on its strategies to revitalise the company. “With the expansion of its offerings, the company is on-track to position itself as an entrepreneurial engineering and technology partner with the ability to provide services from engineering, design, building and commissioning to maintenance, repair and overhaul for the various segments of the rail transport industry,” it added.
