Opening of US-based company in Johor will boost investments, job opportunities, says exco member

20 Feb 2023

Johor has welcomed a US-based medical packaging manufacturer to its shores involving an investment value of about RM200mil, says Lee Ting Han.

The state investment, trade and consumer affairs committee chairman said the 6,400 sq m facility is Oliver Healthcare Packaging’s first plant in South-East Asia.

“Located at i-Tech Valley, an integrated industrial park within the established economic zone of Iskandar Malaysia, I am pleased that it will also provide close to 450 job opportunities to Johoreans.

“I am sure the manufacturer’s entry to the state will help instil further confidence in investors on Johor’s value proposition.

“The state has built up its capabilities in the manufacturing sector over the years.

“We have a diversified economy that can support a wide range of industry activities, including the medical device, healthcare and pharmaceutical sectors,” he said after launching the plant’s groundbreaking ceremony in Iskandar Puteri here on Monday (Feb 20).

Lee, who is also Paloh assemblyman, added that the ongoing US-China trade tensions have led many multinational companies to explore other available options with the aim of diversifying their operations.

In this regard, Johor has welcomed many technology-intensive projects last year, helping the state to emerge as the top investment destination in the country, he said.

“Going by the list of projects that we are facilitating at the moment, we are expecting this year to be a positive one for Johor, too,” said Lee.
