MITI urges companies to register with CIMS database system

07 Oct 2020

The Ministry of International Trade and Industry (MITI) has urged companies in Malaysia to register with its business database, the Covid-19 Intelligent Management System (CIMS).

In a statement today, it said this would make it easier for the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) to refer to the system before issuing relevant companies with the permission to operate in light of the implementation of the conditional movement control order (CMCO) and the enhanced movement control order (EMCO) in several locations in the country.

However, the ministry emphasised that the CIMS registration only acts as a reference source for the PDRM and is not an automatic operating approval for companies.

“The permission to operate remains within the PDRM’s jurisdiction.

“As for companies operating within the CMCO locations in Sabah, companies from the essential services sectors as gazetted by the government are strongly encouraged to register with the CIMS, and the list of essential services sectors is available on the Malaysian National Security Council’s website,” it said.

Companies may register via, while those facing technical difficulties may lodge a complaint via [email protected] or contact MITI via Twitter, Facebook and Instagram.

MITI has also reminded companies which have been allowed to operate to adhere to the standard operating procedures (SOP).

“Failure to abide by the SOP is a criminal offense under Rule 7 of the Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases (Measures within Infected Local Areas) Regulations 2020 and action can be taken against the companies,” the ministry said.
