MGTC eyes RM5 bln in potential investments from IGEM 2021

24 Jun 2021

The Malaysian Green Technology and Climate Change Centre (MGTC) is aiming for over RM5 billion in potential investments from the International Greentech and Conference Malaysia (IGEM) this year.

In a statement, MGTC chief executive officer Shamsul Bahar Mohd Nor said the 12th edition of the event is expected to attract 300 exhibitors from 50 countries and 30,000 registered visitors.

“IGEM has played an important role for 11 years in developing the green economy, which is fast expanding in Malaysia and other countries,” he said, adding that the IGEM virtual platform has been revamped for easier and more dynamic interactions.

Themed ‘Redefining Sustainability’, IGEM 2021 will be held virtually for six months from July 1 to Dec 21, 2021 at www.igem.my.

Organised by MGTC, an agency under the Ministry of Environment and Water (KASA), the event will highlight several sustainable industrial themes, starting with Green Technology (July), Water (August), Climate Change and the Environment (September), Sustainability (October) and Green Financing (November), as well as Energy and e-Mobility (December).

Meanwhile, KASA Minister Datuk Seri Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man expects IGEM 2021 to have an even bigger impact than last year’s event.

“In these six months, the virtual platform will offer more initiatives and opportunities to all participants in fostering awareness on sustainable economic growth,” he said.

Since it was first organised in 2010, IGEM  has achieved over RM30 billion in potential investments and received 500,000 visitors,  including stakeholders  and companies from 79 countries.
