Malaysia-based ESCATEC expanding global presence, offers OEM brands ‘viable alternative’

02 Jul 2021

Malaysia-based ESCATEC is  expanding its global presence  to offer major original equipment manufacturer (OEM) brands a viable alternative to the tier-one titans of the global electronics manufacturing services (EMS) sector.

In a statement made jointly with the Malaysian Investment Development Authority (MIDA) today, ESCATEC said the group has been steadily expanding its repertoire of expertise, services, and production locations and is now an EMS partner of global repute to numerous market-leading OEM brands.

MIDA chief executive officer Arham Abdul Rahman noted that ESCATEC has grown from a single entity to three entities, located in Penang and Johor, with more plans in store.

“ESCATEC has also diversified its activities from production of electrical and electronics products to medical devices in Malaysia.

“We are pleased to see ESCATEC tapping on Malaysia’s well-connected and established semiconductor industry cluster in Penang and Johor Bahru,” he said.

He said the group’s presence is undoubtedly a welcomed addition, given its long-standing reputation as a high-tech supplier that could deliver flexible, quick and reliable solutions as Malaysia looks to further strengthen the semiconductor ecosystem in the region.

ESCATEC CEO Patrick Macdonald said the group still has some way to go before it can challenge head-on with tier-one EMS rivals; yet the target is a motivational force for the group and its employees.

“Besides the group’s efforts in meeting expectations and building trust with customers and stakeholders to fuel expansions, strategies become achievable only with the support and facilitation of the government and MIDA is always willing to help,” he added.

ESCATEC recently fully acquired the JJS Manufacturing Group, an industry specialist in the electro-mechanical assembly of large complex equipment that operates several production facilities in the United Kingdom and the Czech Republic.

“We became aware of JJS Manufacturing and we felt that their corporate values, expertise, modern facilities and skilled workforce would be a great fit with ESCATEC and generate significant new business opportunities,” Macdonald said.

The group also focuses on supporting the global transportation, storage, and distribution of the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine, via a partnership with Iceland-based Controlant, a global leader in real-time supply chain solutions.
