Journeying Towards a World-Class Malaysia Healthcare Travel Experience

07 Mar 2022

Malaysia has been consistently ranked as one of the best healthcare travel destinations, driven by our value propositions of world-class quality, accessible, and affordable healthcare treatments. Propelling the nation’s healthcare travel industry is the Malaysia Healthcare Travel Council (MHTC), a government agency under the Ministry of Health Malaysia (MOH) entrusted to facilitate and promote the industry through the brand ‘Malaysia Healthcare’.

Malaysia Healthcare has established a strong foundation for healthcare service delivery through a seamless end-to-end patient journey since its inception over 10 years ago. This is comprised of collaborative efforts from government entities, industry players, and its network of globally accredited 77 member hospitals, which make up the country’s healthcare travel ecosystem.

Despite the adversities caused by the global pandemic, Malaysia Healthcare is charting a new course for a continuous and sustainable industry growth, guided by the Malaysia Healthcare Travel Industry Blueprint 2021-2025, launched by the Minister of Health Malaysia, YB Khairy Jamaluddin.

The Blueprint charts out recovery and rebuilding strategies to continue growing the industry as one of the country’s key export services. It aims to enhance the current healthcare travel ecosystem, strengthen the Malaysia Healthcare brand, and expand the introduction of Malaysia’s healthcare offerings to more targeted markets. This includes reviving the sector by building confidence in Malaysia as a safe and trusted healthcare travel destination especially within target markets such as Indonesia, China, Vietnam, Cambodia, Singapore, and Brunei to provide a tailored and curated healthcare travel experience to foreign patients.

With the Blueprint, Malaysia has begun forging a new frontier to redefine the patient journey for them to Experience Malaysia Healthcare through a unified and collaborative approach to digitalisation. This will allow healthcare providers to improve upon service delivery and reinforce our patients’ peace of mind, especially in Malaysia’s niche offerings such as the Fertility and Cardiology Hubs of Asia, the Cancer Care Centre of Excellence, as well as expanding on the untapped potential of positioning Malaysia as a Retirement Living destination.

Malaysia Healthcare remains committed in strengthening Malaysia’s position as the leading global destination for healthcare and will continue with these synergistic collaborations to build upon the existing confidence in Malaysia as a safe and trusted healthcare destination, prioritising the best healthcare experience for patients.
