15 Sep 2022

The World Congress on Innovation and Technology (WCIT) 2022, dubbed the Olympics of the world’s IT industry, concluded, serving as a prime platform on the world’s stage for innovative discussions.

National Tech Association of Malaysia (Pikom) chairman and WCIT 2022 organising chairman Dr Sean Seah said more than 4,000 delegates from over 60 countries attended the three-day event.

Seah said the Malaysia Digital (MD) initiative, formerly known as MSC Malaysia secured RM42 billion foreign direct investments (FDIs) and over RM4 billion domestic direct investment (DDIs).

“These investments will further progress Malaysia’s technological advancements,” he said in his closing speech today.

Seah said WCIT 2022 has minimised the technological divide between Malaysia and some of the world’s most developed countries.

He also said that PIKOM will continuously seek to improve infrastructure, increase employment, foster technological innovation.

Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow said WCIT 2022 has lived up to its promise to serve as a catalyst to sustain Malaysia’s digital and economic recovery post-pandemic with the investments secured.

“The digital investments announced at WCIT 2022 are expected to create more than 25,000 job opportunities,” he said.

Meanwhile, the World Information Technology and Services Alliance has selected Malaysia to host the event next year in Kuching, Sarawak.
