MIDA Sarawak: Accelerating Industrial Transformation and Sustainable Growth in East Malaysia

MIDA Sarawak continues to strengthen its position as a driving force in advancing Sarawak’s industrial transformation and investment ecosystem throughout 2025. Through high-impact engagements, strategic partnerships, and targeted investment facilitation, the office has reinforced Malaysia’s vision of balanced and sustainable growth—anchored on innovation, inclusivity, and resilience.

Empowering Local Industries Through Strategic Outreach

From March to September 2025, MIDA Sarawak intensified its outreach efforts across the state, connecting directly with small and medium enterprises (SMEs), industry leaders, and government partners. These programmes have been instrumental in expanding awareness of federal-level investment incentives and sustainability-driven opportunities.

Among the key programmes were the Grants and Export Compliance Seminar, which brought together over 100 SMEs to explore funding and facilitation options, and the ESG Readiness Programme co-organised with Hong Leong Bank, which promotes Malaysia’s suite of green investment incentives. MIDA also reached entrepreneurs through the Awareness Programme for SMEs in Sarawak – Bumiputera Series, jointly held with MATRADE, TERAJU and SME Corp, enabling local businesses to leverage national support frameworks.

Through collaborations with MINTRED, SIRIM, and MITI agencies, these initiatives not only strengthened industry knowledge but also fostered partnerships that drive innovation and competitiveness within Sarawak’s growing manufacturing base.

Strengthening Industrial Ecosystems and Supply Chains

To deepen industrial capacity, MIDA’s Building Technology and Lifestyle Division, supported by the Sarawak office, conducted a Domestic Special Project Mission (DSPM) in August 2025. The mission focused on unlocking opportunities within the building materials industry—one of Sarawak’s emerging growth segments.

Productive discussions with leading local players, including InnoCement Sdn. Bhd., Dura Technology (Sarawak) Sdn. Bhd., Borneo Pole Sdn. Bhd., and Cahya Mata Cement Sdn. Bhd., led to promising project proposals in advanced concrete and construction materials. These developments are set to fortify the state’s supply chain resilience, supporting both domestic demand and future export capacity.

Through collaborations with MINTRED, SIRIM, and MITI agencies, these initiatives not only strengthened industry knowledge but also fostered partnerships that drive innovation and competitiveness within Sarawak’s growing manufacturing base.

Positioning Sarawak for the Future

Collectively, these efforts reflect MIDA Sarawak’s proactive approach in driving industrial development and positioning the state as an attractive investment destination. By continuing to support SMEs, facilitate high-value investments and strengthen partnerships with both domestic and international stakeholders, MIDA Sarawak remains steadfast in its commitment to advancing Sarawak’s role as a dynamic and innovative contributor to Malaysia’s economic transformation and sustainable future.
