Ta Win sets up healthcare arm to explore downstream copper segment

18 Sep 2020

Copper products maker Ta Win Holdings Bhd has set up a healthcare arm called Ta Win Copper Biohealth Sdn Bhd (TWCBiohealth) to explore the downstream copper segment.

“The incorporation of our own healthcare arm is integral to our long-term strategy to explore the downstream copper segment, which holds much potential for sustained growth. We aim to expand our operations by looking into the application of antimicrobial copper and copper additives, as well as the biochemistry and chemistry of copper and copper proteins, be it in terms of products, devices or services,” Ta Win group managing director Datuk Seri Ngu Tieng Ung said in a statement today.

Ta Win said with its natural antimicrobial properties, the application of antimicrobial copper-alloy in the healthcare sector can prevent frequently contacted surfaces from serving as a medium to transfer microorganisms as well as minimise occurrence of hospital-acquired infections.

“Copper is also an essential mineral and nutrient, which helps to maintain healthy bones, blood vessels, nerves and immune function. It also contributes to iron absorption.

“While copper is naturally present in some foods, there are those that require the intake of copper through dietary supplements to avoid symptoms resulting from copper deficiency, such as anaemia and osteoporosis,” it said.

To spearhead its journey in the downstream copper segment, Ta Win has appointed Datuk Dr Zulkifli Mohamed Hashim, who has close to 40 years of experience in related fields, to sit on the board of TWCBiohealth.

Ta Win shares closed down 0.5 sen or 3.57% at 14 sen today, bringing a market capitalisation of RM58.31 million.
