Industry 4.0 readiness to be enhanced among Malaysian companies

Industry 4.0 readiness to be enhanced among Malaysian companies

11 Nov 2020

Malaysian small and medium enterprises (SMEs) are encouraged to sign up for the National Policy on Industry4RWD Readiness Assessment (RA) to check their capabilities and readiness in Industry 4.0 technologies and processes.

Malaysia Productivity Corporation (MPC) director general Datuk Abdul Latif Abu Seman said the government had allocated RM210 million from 2019 to 2021 to support the transition and migration towards Industry 4.0.

“The government’s allocation in the 2021 budget also expands the aspects of technology and digitalisation where these efforts are in line with the initiatives under the Industry4WRD Technology Readiness Programme to promote industries that can optimise economic growth,” he said in a statement yesterday.

He noted that the Ministry of International Trade and Industry (MITI), together with other agencies involved such as MPC and Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC), was working towards realising the technology-based transformation agenda.

Abdul Latif said the assessment was an all-encompassing programme aimed at helping SMEs to assess their capabilities and readiness to adopt the Fourth Industrial Revolution (IR 4.0) technologies and processes.

The assessment uses a pre-determined set of indicators to understand their present capabilities and gaps, from which will enable firms to prepare feasible strategies and plans to move towards Industry 4.0.

He said the implementation of Industry4WRD-RA was in line with the government’s aspiration to transform Malaysia into one of the main destinations for the high-tech industry sectors by 2025.

“We encourage more companies in the manufacturing or manufacturing-related services sectors to be involved in Industry4WRD-RA and we will send qualified assessors to conduct onsite assessment and produce a report on their status in Industry 4.0, after which they will make recommendations for improvement. Qualified SMEs do not need to pay as it is fully subsidised by the government,” he said.

MPC, through nine Productivity Nexus under Malaysia Productivity Blueprint (MPB), continues to carry out readiness assessments to assist up to 500 SMEs to migrate to Industry 4.0 technologies.

Industries are encouraged to participate in the Industry4WRD-RA through https://www.miti.gov.my/index.php/forms/form/90.
