IGEM 2021 to redefine sustainable growth post-pandemic

The 12th International Greentech & Eco Products Exhibition & Conference Malaysia (IGEM 2021) is targeting RM5 billion in business leads to spur the green economy.
IGEM 2021 will be hosting over 100 conference sessions, webinars, and talks covering many aspects of sustainability, including green technology, water, climate change and environment, green financing, and energy and e-mobility, throughout the six-month event.
At the virtual launch ceremony on July 22, Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin said IGEM fits the country’s mission to collectively pursue economic and social well-being in an environmentally friendly manner.
This year’s theme, “Redefining Sustainability”, focuses on climate change and green technology amid addressing the impacts of the Covid-19 pandemic.
Muhyiddin said the collaboration among Malaysian companies is commendable especially in technology and knowledge sharing within the hydrogen ecosystem, commercialisation and green technologies.
Malaysian Investment Development Authority (Mida) and the Malaysia External Trade Development Corporation (Matrade) will also be organising virtual business matching sessions between leading and emerging organisations on the IGEM website.
Environment and Water (KASA) Minister Datuk Seri Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man said the extended duration of six months is a great opportunity for IGEM’s exhibitors, conferences and business to match partners and further cultivate a greener post-pandemic economy.
“This can be done by eliciting the participation of a wider spectrum of industry leaders, green entrepreneurs, and delegates.
“I am confident that IGEM 2021 will play an effective role and deliver on KASA’s mandate of leading Malaysia’s sustainable environmental and water conservation efforts to bring climate action impact locally and globally,” he added.
MGTC Malaysian Green Technology and Climate Change Centre (MGTC) will be hosting two signature events at IGEM 2021.
Firstly, the International Hydrogen Economy Forum and Strategic Lab will explore the potential role of hydrogen in the country’s energy mix, which international panelists and local experts will lead.
Secondly, the Convention on Promotion of Energy Sustainability Best Practices (COPES BEST), a collaboration with Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) will endorse best practices and innovation related to energy sustainability, energy efficiency and conservation.
MGTC chairman Professor Datuk Ir. Dr A Bakar Jaafar reaffirmed its commitment to mainstream green technology and economy as well as carbon development through expanding more green products and services.
“Our product will drive the nation’s green agenda and cultivate the adoption of green lifestyles through publicity and awareness programmes,” he added.
To date, IGEM 2021 has signed up close to 100 booths on its website, with more exhibitors expected to join in the coming months.
