The opening of the Academy Training Centre was officiated by Y.B. Dato’ Seri Ong Ka Chuan, Minister of Trade & Industry II at the premise of Atlas Copco (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd at Kota Kemuning, Shah Alam.
He was joined by the Swedish Ambassador to Malaysia, H.E. Ambassador Dag Juhlin-Dannfelt, Atlas Copco’s Vice President – Competence Development and Communications, Mr Peter Leemans, General Manager, Compressor Technique – Malaysia & Singapore,Mr Dereck Devlin, and Vice President SEA Holding, Mr Horst Wolfgang Wasel for the Ribbon Cutting Ceremony.
The special occasion was also witnessed by many of their esteemed customers, Atlas Copco’s General Managers representing Philippines, Thailand and Vietnam and the staff in Malaysia.
Indeed, this is one of Atlas Copco’s milestones in Malaysia. Malaysia was chosen as the regional training centre, aimed to develop and enhance the competency level of their Southeast Asia’s technicians. The Academy’s mission is to ensure that their service people in the organization worldwide are equipped with the correct competences by providing training and following up on the results.
Currently, Atlas Copco have a Cadet Academy in Philippines for fresh graduates, and Malaysia will be the centre for hands-on experience. The facility has two training rooms, a control and monitoring room and a compressor room equipped with a range of different machines for the hands-on practical training.
“The training centre will be operating to provide around 50 training courses per year making it a total of 700 training days. With this training centre, we will be able to give first class service and support thereby building stronger relationship with our customers in the industries here as well as in other countries in Southeast Asia.
“We are collaborating with local universities, polytechnic schools, for example, University Tunku Abdul Rahman, University Malaya, Politeknik Sultan Salahuddin Abdul Aziz Shah for the development of local talent. We offered internship in all aspect of businesses. With this new training centre, we will be able to offer for the engineering internship practical hands-on experience in a safe environment,” said Mr Dereck D Devlin, the General Manager for Atlas Copco Malaysia and Singapore.
He added that today, Atlas Copco’s machines are one of the most efficient compressors in the world and we are the first compressor company to be awarded a MyHijau Green Certification for our GA VSD+ range.
