14 July, 2017 – Roland Corporation, a notable Japanese manufacturer of electronic musical instruments, electronic equipment and software today announced the opening of its Principal Hub (PH) operation, under its subsidiary, MI Services Malaysia Sdn. Bhd. (MIS). MIS will be fully operational in Port Klang from January 2018 as a central base for further improving global operations and expanding business.
In November 2014, Roland Corporation established a manufacturing facility, Roland Manufacturing Malaysia that started operations in July 2015. Since then, this Group’s first 100% owned overseas manufacturing facility has been steadily expanding its production scale. The company is planning to expand its production scale further in the future under the supervision of the operation of MIS.
Roland Manufacturing operations in the country has benefited over 366 Malaysians who have been employed by the company in various positions, focusing on the production of electronic pianos, guitar amplifiers and electronic drums for the global market. The company uses IT system and technologies for its material, parts handling as well as inspection processes.
YBhg Dato’ Azman Mahmud, Chief Executive Officer of Malaysian Investment Development Authority (MIDA) at the opening ceremony of MIS said, ”With this principal hub establishment, Malaysia is now Roland’s second headquarter after Japan that will act as the Group’s Global Procurement and Distribution Centre to support its sales units throughout the world. For Malaysia, this is an important vote of confidence in the country’s competitive strengths as an attractive investment location for companies to hub their activities.”
“MIS will create more high value jobs for Malaysians and more collaboration opportunities for our local companies. In fact, Roland is already showing a strong commitment in this area as they have been hiring and upskilling our local talents. Five Malaysian graduates are currently being employed and trained by the company at Roland’s HQ in Japan to be equipped with the specialised skillsets required for their jobs. In addition, we will benefit from the R&D and knowledge transfer activities as this new regional operation will undertake most of the Group’s product testing activities. Roland will also be developing new music instruments and customising Roland’s products to tailor to the specific requirements of regional markets,” added Dato’ Azman.
“The combination of a condusive business environment and its educated and trainable workforce makes Malaysia a very attractive location for this project. The establishment of MIS is a very important step towards improving the cost competitiveness for the Group as it will improve the overall efficiency of supply chain management operations, shortening lead times, optimising global procurement functions of other materials and finished product stocks. We also anticipate that the Principal Hub Scheme will further reduce our operational cost. With this, we can reinvest again here for future growth,” announced by Roland Headquarters.
Also present at the opening ceremony was Mr. Jun-Ichi Miki, Chief Executive Officer of Roland Japan and Mr. Yoshimichi Kano, Senior Executive Officer of Roland Japan.
