6 April 2017, Petaling Jaya, Selangor – “Availability of talents with the right skills sets is one of the critical enablers to sustain Malaysia’s position as an attractive investment destination in the region. Being the first point of contact for investors, the Malaysian Investment Development Authority (MIDA) has been an active conduit between the industry and academia, bridging the gaps in building the talents of the country. Numerous engagements have not only enabled us to better serve the talent needs of the industries, but more importantly such engagements have contributed in enhancing the employability of our undergraduates,” said YBhg. Dato’ Azman Mahmud at the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) Signing Ceremony between SEGi University with Corporate and Government Agencies today at the university’s premise in Petaling Jaya.
The signing ceremony of SEGi University – MIDA MoU was witnessed by YB Dato’ Seri Haji Idris Jusoh, Minister of Higher Education, YBhg. Dato’ Azman Mahmud, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of MIDA and YBhg. Datuk Azahari Mohamed Kamil, Executive Director/ Group President of SEGi. The MoU was signed by Encik Mohamad Ismail Abu Bakar, Director of Industry Talent Management Division, MIDA and Professor Dr. Patrick Kee Peng Kong, Vice Chancellor of SEGi University.
“I am pleased that MIDA and SEGi University will be collaborating on various talent development initiatives under this MoU. As the central investment promotion agency of the country, MIDA holds pertinent information on the future human resource needs of the nation; particularly those required in the manufacturing and selected services sectors. We will channel these insights to SEGi, which will give this university an edge in realigning its academic programmes to be in tune with the demand of the market. This effort will be further complemented with industrial training as well as industry attachment/ externship for both students and lecturers of SEGi University. In the long run, I am optimistic that SEGi will be able to churn out industry-ready talent pool to support the industrial growth and economic development of Malaysia,” added the MIDA CEO.
On the exchange of MoU between SEGi University and Biocon Sdn. Bhd., a subsidiary of India’s biopharmaceutical company - Biocon Limited, Dato’ Azman commented that, “The MoU marks another success stories of MIDA’s efforts in building productive industry-academia collaboration. Biocon’s integrated insulins manufacturing facility in Nusajaya, Johor is the company’s first overseas biopharma manufacturing and research facility and the largest in Asia thus far. MIDA has been engaging Biocon to nationalise its expatriate posts, as we foresee the potential of our local talents in filling up those posts. We are delighted that Biocon has agreed to this value proposition, underscoring the company’s confidence in Malaysia’s talent pool. Immediately from the exchange of this MoU, students and lecturers of SEGi University will undergo internship and industry attachment at Biocon, exposing them to state-of-the-art facility and technology in producing insulin and insulin analogs for diabetic patients”.
“As the principal investment promotion agency of the country, MIDA is committed in building a vibrant and conducive place for investors to do business. Building of a steady stream of competent and versatile talents is certainly one of our top agenda as it will translate into one of the powerful magnets in attracting investments into the country,” ended Dato’ Azman.
