Upgrading of Padang Besar Terminal to Boost Investments in Perlis

As the logistics industry forms the backbone of supply chains, the upgraded facility will act as an enabler towards providing a more effective service delivery and enhance the overall supply chain process. This will ultimately contribute towards elevating the operational efficiencies of the businesses in Perlis.

Padang Besar, 9 March 2017 – The groundbreaking of the expansion of the KTMB Cargo Terminal Facility in Padang Besar is a milestone of the National Logistic and Trade Facilitation Masterplan, which MIDA is actively involved in.

As the logistics industry forms the backbone of supply chains, the upgraded facility will act as an enabler towards providing a more effective service delivery and enhance the overall supply chain process. This will ultimately contribute towards elevating the operational efficiencies of the businesses in Perlis.

Being the lead agency to enhance domestic growth, we seek to increase the capabilities of logistic service providers by strengthening internal capabilities and improving competency and trade compliance levels.

Perlis may be the smallest state in Malaysia, however its proximity to Thailand and Indonesia, as well as the states in the Northern Corridor of Malaysia makes it a highly strategic investment location. With further development in its infrastructure, Perlis will be well-positioned as a state of tremendous opportunity.

Currently, there are 48 manufacturing projects implemented in Perlis, with total investments of RM1.03 billion. These projects which have created 6,033 jobs, were mainly in electronics & electrical products, food manufacturing, non-metallic mineral products, and plastic products. This demonstrates that there are already many business opportunities in this unique state.

As the Federal Government continue to develop a full range of basic and quality infrastructure here, companies will experience a more conducive business environment for long term sustainable investments. Investors should leverage on all programmes and facilities provided by MIDA, such as the incentive for Less Developed Area (LDA). With the LDA scheme, companies will be eligible for 100% income tax exemption for up to 15 years.
