Telecommunications Rates

Telephone Charges
Under the Equal Access Regime, telephone subscribers in Malaysia can select any network from three telephone companies for their national and international calls. As for cellular phone users, there are currently three service operators to choose from. The government has introduced the concept of tariff ceilings for fixed line and cellular services. The rates depend on market competition as they are not regulated. The three telecommunications service operators may set their rates at par or below the ceiling rates.

Fixed Telephone/Direct Exchange Line
TM offers both published and customised rates. The published rates are as shown below. However, for business /consumers, Telekom Malaysia offers customised packages tailored to the business / consumers needs for local STD or International. Appropriate technology shall be deployed to deliver the service level required by the customers.

Local Calls
Upon subscription for basic telephone service, an individual direct exchange line and a telephone set in a range of colours for selection is provided. A basic monthly rental will be levied while additional phone sets to be used as extensions can be provided at minimal additional rental.

Note: IDD calls are charged in blocks of 6 seconds or part thereof. The charge for each block depends on the country to which the IDD call is made.

For example, if you call Australia and the call lasts for 10 minutes and 20 seconds, the charge will be computed as follows:

Total duration :10 minutes and 20 seconds
Charge rate to Australia :RM0.09 (US$ 0.03) per block of 6 seconds
Total duration (in seconds) :10 minutes x 60 seconds) + 20 seconds = 620 seconds
Total unit charge blocks :620 seconds /6 seconds = 104 unit blocks
Total charge :RM0.09 (US$ 0.03) x 104 = RM9.36 (US$2.93)
