Business opportunities for Indonesian investors in Iskandar Malaysia
Ample business opportunities in Iskandar Malaysia await investors from Indonesia, according to the Iskandar Regional Development Authority (IRDA).
IRDA Chief Executive, Datuk Ismail Ibrahim in making the call to Indonesian investors to invest in the southern economic corridor, cited new opportunities in the tourism, healthcare, education and logistics sectors.
Datuk Ismail was speaking at the Iskandar Malaysia Investment Forum in Jakarta, The forum was part of the Iskandar Malaysia-Indonesia Trans-Regional Promotion Mission.
Current projects including the Pinewood Iskandar Malaysia Studios, an integrated movie production studio, which will be ready in May, are creating new opportunities for participation by Indonesian investors. Another is the development of the Pengerang Intergrated Petroleum Complex.
A number of Indonesian companies have investment interests in Iskandar Malaysia and these include the investment by Sinas Mas in leisure and tourism development in Sena; Musim Mastika in the production of palm oil in Tanjung Langsat; Mulford Plastics in plastic moulding in Pasir Gudang and Delphi Cocoa in the production of cocoa-based food products in Pasir Gudang.
To-date, Indonesian investments in Iskandar Malaysia is below RM1 billion and there are immense opportunities to attract more investors from the republic.Adapted from StarBiz 19 March 2013
