Sony Malaysia to expand R&D ops

Category: Industry News

Sony EMCS Malaysia Sdn Bhd is set to grow its R&D operations at its design and manufacturing centre in Malaysia and will be adding more R&D staff by as early as March next year.

The Sony R&D centre, opened in September 2011, is well-positioned as a major hub for the development and expansion of Sony's home entertainment and sound products worldwide.

Equipped with advanced simulation systems to support its functions and design engineering expertise in areas including electrical, mechanical and software development, the centre is well-placed to increase its design capabilities in digital broadcasting and network-connected products.

The Sony team in Malaysia is supporting the digitalisation of terrestrial broadcast in Malaysia and other Asean countries and is also actively collaborating with Asian broadcasters to launch content on Sony's connected TVs using a number of web technologies.

The Malaysian R&D talents are being trained on the latest technologies to enable a more efficient development of new designs and products.

The centre is also pursuing the procurement of key components in the country through strategic tie-ups with local suppliers.
