Perodua to upgrade Rawang plant
Perusahaan Otomobil Kedua Sdn Bhd (Perodua) will invest RM160 million to upgrade its plant in Rawang, Selangor to expand its capacity.
The company’s Rawang plant, which has a capacity to produce 250,000 units a year on two shifts, is presently running at 205,000 units a year, Managing Director Datuk Aminar Rashid Salleh said.
Perodua currently exports its cars to the United Kingdom, Singapore, Syria, Egypt, Sri Lanka, Brunei, Indonesia, Fiji, Nepal and Mauritius.
In the first half of the year, the company exported 5,134 units and is on track to achieve an export volume of 10,000 units for the whole year. By 2015, Perodua aims to export some 20,000 units of its motor vehicles.
Meanwhile, from 1 July, all Perodua cars would be fitted with dual front airbags and seatbelt pre-tensioners, to comply with the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe Regulation 94.
