Phisontech centre opens in Penang
Phison Electronics Corp, the maker of the world’s first single-chip USB flash drive IC, has set up a Phisontech Centre in the Northern Corridor Technology Development Centre (NTDC) in Bayan Lepas, Penang.
Phison Chief Executive Officer, Pua Khein Seng, the Malaysian inventor of the pen drive, said the centre would handle the development and design of flash memory applications and solution products while outsourcing the assembly of the finished flash memory products to related small and medium enterprises (SMEs).
With the new technology centre, Phison Electronics would also be able to train and develop Malaysian engineering expertise and to carry out more research & development on integrated circuit and systems for the world market.
Meanwhile, Northern Corridor Implementation Authority's (NCIA) Director of Corporate Services, Zuhairi Mohmad said the project would be expected to attract close to RM60 million over the next five years as well as further develop the flash-drive technology research and development (R&D) in the Northern Corridor, which could be a key contributor to the growth of the LED cluster in the country.
