Category: Cross Border News

Century Logistics Holdings Bhd, a Malaysian integrated logistics services company, is set to invest up to RM30 million to build a warehouse-cum-distribution centre in Thailand, as part of the company's strategy to grow their business in the region.

Century Logistics Deputy Managing Director, Dr Mohamed Amin Kassim said construction work on the warehouse to be located in the Rojana Industrial Area, 70km north of Bangkok, would begin by year-end and expected to be ready by mid-2009.

The new warehouse is planned to meet the needs of the multinational corporations (MNCs) with operations in the vicinity. In July, the company bought the 9.6-acre (3.88-hectare) land at the industrial estate for RM6.8 million.

Century Logistics, whose current Malaysian business accounts for some 90% of its group revenue is also keen to expand its presence in Asia, in particular the growing markets in China and India

In China, the company via its unit, Century-YES Logistics (Yichun) Co Ltd had obtained the land use right certificate from the Jiangxi-Yichun provincial government and Jiangxi-Yichun land authority in August. Its China operations would manage the logistics system for the inland port there, while at the same time, the Chinese Government and a Singapore-linked company would develop the infrastructure on the 800-acre land as well as build factories in the area.

In addition, Dr Mohamed Amin said the company would also explore prospects for joint-venture or strategic alliances in the Middle East, another growth area for its business.

Recently, Century Logistics' aim of becoming a major halal services provider was given a boost when the company became the first company in the country, to be awarded the MS1900:2005 Quality Management Systems according to Islamic perspectives for international freight forwarding, warehouse management and transport sevices from Sirim Bhd, Malaysia's leading national organization for industrial research.
